Anyone who has spent time in our building knows its limitations. Though Jesus has caused us to flourish here over the past 17 years, we lack adequate nursery space, restrooms, and common areas. Our space is difficult to navigate and even impossible for those with physical disabilities. Visitors are often confused about how to enter the building. And, of course, there is the infamous “black wall.”
So, what does it mean to Cultivate the Corner? It means investing in the mission of the triune God on this corner in Urban & University Knoxville. It means beginning to work to beautify our corner because our God is beautiful. It means making our property more hospitable because our God has welcomed us. It means creating space for our children to learn and to grow. In short, it means doubling-down on what has always been our mission, and setting down roots on this corner.
The Cultivate the Corner campaign is our effort, begun in February 2020, to raise funds for the renovation of our property. This includes a Commons space, expanded children’s classrooms, major improvements to the accessibility and flow of our property, and a dramatically beautified exterior.
As we celebrate the opening of our new Children’s Wing, we want to take a moment and give thanks for God’s faithfulness during our Cultivate the Corner fundraising campaign. The Cultivate campaign was launched in 2020, and more than $2 million has been given to date! This is an amazing gift, and we are deeply grateful for your generosity.
Phase 1 of the Cultivate project was completed in 2024 with the opening of the Commons space, and on July 27th we’ll celebrate the completion of Phase 2 when we open the new Children's Wing.Over the next four weeks, we’ll be making a final push to Cultivate the Corner.
Currently, our outstanding debt on the project is approximately $1,020,000, including the current loan and final payments to the contractor. This is within our projections – and at the same time, we would be thankful to reduce the amount owed or to fully pay it off. If you would like to support that effort with a pledge or one-time gift, or if you have any questions about Cultivate, please send an email to cultivate@redeemerknoxville.org.
